Why Doesn’t Meditation Work for Me?
Meditation helps many people, but not everyone experiences immediate benefits. If you have tried meditating and still feel anxious or overwhelmed, there may be other factors affecting your ability to relax. Understanding those factors is often the first step. Sitting still is not the only path to calm.
Stillness Can Feel Unsafe
For a nervous system stuck in high alert, sudden stillness can feel threatening, not soothing. The moment activity stops, everything you were outrunning catches up. This is common and not a failure on your part.
Too Much, Too Soon
Twenty minutes of silent sitting is advanced practice for an overloaded system. Starting with movement, breath, or eyes-open awareness is often far more effective than forcing stillness.
The Body May Need to Discharge First
If tension is stored physically, the mind cannot settle on top of it. Gentle body- and energy-based work can release some of that charge, so meditation finally has somewhere calm to land.
“You are not bad at meditation — your system may simply need safety first.”
A Gentler Doorway
An energy session offers deep relaxation without the pressure to "do it right." Many people find meditation becomes accessible only after their nervous system has learned it is safe to rest — available in Antibes or online.
When Sitting Still Feels Impossible
If meditation leaves you more agitated, not less, you are not doing it wrong. For a nervous system already in overdrive, being asked to sit still with a racing mind can feel like pressing the accelerator. Stillness is a destination, not always a starting point — and forcing it can add one more thing to fail at.
Gentler Doors Into Calm
The body often needs to discharge and settle before the mind can rest. Slow movement, a walk, a warm bath, long exhales or simply resting in receiving hands can reach the calm that silent sitting could not. Energetic work offers one such door — a complementary practice where you do nothing but receive, and stillness arrives on its own.
