How to Clear Heavy Energy When You Feel Like a Human Sponge

To clear heavy energy, follow the same order the Balinese tradition uses: purify, ground, realign. Purify with water and the intention to release what isn't yours; ground by putting your bare feet on the earth and breathing slowly into your belly; realign with a moment of gratitude, an offering or silence in nature. When heaviness has built up for months, a Jnana Kanda session helps release deeper layers that daily habits can't reach alone.
Some days you feel as if you are wearing a wet coat you cannot take off. Your body is heavy, your thoughts are thick, your heart feels crowded. When you are a human sponge, this heaviness is often the sum of everything you have absorbed from others and from places. The good news: what was absorbed can be released.
How to recognise heavy energy
- A weight on the chest, shoulders or head.
- Sleep that doesn't refresh you.
- Low motivation and a feeling of being slowed down.
- Irritation or sadness that seems to come from nowhere.
- A home that suddenly feels stuffy or cluttered.
Step 1 — Purify with water
In Bali, melukat — purification in living water from a sacred spring — is the first thing we do. It is also the first step of every Jnana Kanda masterclass. At home, you can honour the principle: stand under the shower, let the water run from the crown of your head down your spine, and say inwardly, “Everything that isn't mine, I release now.” If you live near the sea, a swim is even better. Salt water has always been used to cleanse.
Step 2 — Ground in the earth
Heavy energy collects in the upper body when we live in our heads. Take it down. Stand barefoot on grass or sand, soften your knees, and breathe out slowly as if the breath were travelling down through your legs into the ground. Five minutes is enough to feel the difference.
Step 3 — Move the breath
Breathe in through the nose for four counts, out through the mouth for six or eight. A longer exhale tells the nervous system that it is safe. Let the shoulders drop on every out-breath. Sigh if you need to; sighing is the body's natural release valve.
Step 4 — Realign with gratitude
In the Balinese tradition, offerings realign a person with nature rather than against it. You don't need a temple: light a candle, place a flower, or simply thank the day before you sleep. Gratitude is a frequency, and heaviness finds it hard to stay there.
“What was absorbed can be released. Nothing heavy has to stay.”
Step 5 — Clear your space
Open the windows, let fresh air cross the room, tidy one small area and let the sun in. Places hold atmospheres; a clear space helps you stay clear.
When heaviness is deeper than daily habits
If you have carried other people's weight for years, some layers are too deep to release with a shower and a walk. That is where a session helps. In the Jnana Kanda lineage of Grand Master Mahaguru Mangku Alit Ajna, I act as a channel for sacred energy: the heaviness that isn't yours is dissolved gently, without effort or drama, and your own vitality comes back to the surface. Frequently asked questions
How often should I clear my energy?
A short daily clearing is ideal for sensitive people — the same way you wash your body every day.
Do I need special tools like sage or crystals?
No. Water, earth, breath and a sincere intention are enough. Tools can help, but they are never essential.
What does a clearing session feel like?
Most people feel warmth, tingling, deep relaxation or emotion rising and leaving. Afterwards they describe feeling lighter, clearer and calmer.
